FireFlyz Care and Maintenance Tips

  • Placement - Do not place Fireflyz too near to each other or other objects such as plants as their movement might limited. To operate effectively, FireFlyz needs approximately a 32-inch perimeter around itself, clear of obstacles. Your Fireflyz contains a strong Magnet. Do not place it near ferrous metallic objects which could interfere with its operation.

  • Storing - To prolong the life and usefulness of your Fireflyz, remove your Fireflyz from your yard during the harsh winter and/or rainy months and store them in a dry, dark place (box). Be sure to turn them to the OFF position first (or remove the battery) before storing them. Unlike Alkaline batteries, the LiFePO4 solar batteries do not leak or rust over time. So as long as you have the FireFlyz in the OFF position you can keep the battery installed.

  • Sound - The Fireflyz can make a faint squeaking sound when operating. If this is bothersome to you, you can put a small drop of 3-in-1 oil on the metal pin where the wire strand pivots.

  • Optimal performance - The Stake and bottom cover must be secure and vertically upright for your Fireflyz to operate correctly.

  • Water resistant - Your Fireflyz is rated IP65. It can be operated in rain and where sprinklers are present. It is recommended to avoid placing it near sprinklers since accumulation of water spots can build up on the solar cell, degrading its performance.

  • Do not submerge - FireFlyz should not be installed in a place where the water level reaches the bottom cover. Please ensure that the silicone O-ring is installed between the bottom cover and the main body of the Fireflyz.

  • Cleaning - If the product becomes dusty or dirty wash with a damp towel. Do not use detergent. If debris or objects fall into the inner cavity of the fireflyz body, with a compressed air canister or a small vacuum wand, clean out any debris that might be lodged. If a metal object is stuck on in the inner cavity, go to the FAQ section to learn how to remove it.

  • Battery Life - Rechargeable batteries do not last forever. After a few years, the solar battery might need to be replaced. Replace only with LiFePO4 14430 3.2V 400mAh or greater.

  • Keep away from Lawn Maintenance equipment - Make sure that weed trimers and lawnmowers do not come in contact with the FireFlyz. The LED Strand can be easily severed by a weed trimmer or lawn mower.

  • Be environmentally responsible - When replacing the battery, Lithium batteries require certain disposal criteria. Check with your local government on guidelines.

  • Prolong Life - After a few years the solar cell surface can become cloudy like this which will decrease the performance of your Fireflyz. You can restore the cell’s clarity by purchasing a headlight restoration kit from your local automotive supply store. Carefully polish the surface of the solar cell per the instructions of the kit, as if you were restoring your headlamp’s surface.
